The
Laborie Cooperative Credit
Union is celebrating its 25th year of operation and continues to play
a pivotal role in the lives and development of the residents that it serves.
Speaking during the ceremony marking this milestone on Sunday, August 18,
2001, MP for Laborie, Minister for Home Affairs, Legal Affairs and Labour Hon.
Velon John, explained that the fabric of the Laborie society and the economic
development of residents are inextricably linked with the successes of the
Credit Union.
It must be admitted that the Laborie Cooperative
Credit Union has in very meaningful ways touched the lives of virtually every
home and enterprise in this community and this nexus of meaningful contact must
be seen not only in terms of its mandated commercial obligation but also in
terms of its humanitarian and charitable excursions into the individual and
collective lives of the people that it serves.
Scholarships, donations, contributions towards worthy causes, an
organization constituting of a portfolio of assistance that stamp a human face
and infuse a Christian spirit into the operations of the Laborie Cooperative
Credit Union, the minister said.
According to the MP, Laborians must be commended for
the vision and extraordinary capacity to bring to fruition such an institution,
which has impacted and continues to impact on the very core and fabric of the
society.
Minister with responsibility for Cooperatives, Hon. Damian
Greaves said the successes recorded to date could not have been possible if the
key players had not kept their shoulders to the wheel.
It could not have happened without the hard work and dedication of the
members of the various boards, and the various staff members. It could not have happened without the dedication and hard
work of the founding members.
It could not have happened if the people of the community did not invest
their confidence fully in the board of directors and the staff members and in
the founding members. And therefore
all of these different things that we have mentioned, the vision, the
confidence, the hard work and dedication, indeed the inspiration all of those
things are characteristic of the longevity of the Laborie Credit Union that we
are so happy and so willing to express today and celebrate today, Mr. Greaves
said.
